Mediterranean College facilities in Athens, Glyfafa, Thessaloniki , are purpose-built for education and have been designed according to modern and high standards of architecture and functionality, in order to provide a comfortable and creative teaching and learning environment for students. Spacious classrooms with natural lighting make students feel comfortable and participate lively in class, enjoying the built-in technologies and wireless Internet access. All rooms have comfortable seats and desks as well as air-conditioning systems. The College lecture and multi-purpose rooms are fully equipped with modern audiovisual systems and the latest video-conferencing units. Meeting rooms are available to students, to discuss their group-work and prepare their presentations. In the specially designed learning and recreation spaces students can spend their time to relax, do their group meetings, meet their tutors or work on their projects. The Computer Centre is accessible throughout the day for student use, whereas the specialist computer labs can be used when classes are not in session. All the College’s facilities are accessible to people with disabilities and meet all health and safety requirements.
Mediterranean College has 9 Computer Labs with more than 160 workstations equipped with up-to-date systems and networks and a high-speed Internet connection. These lab spaces are used for scheduled classes, general drop-in/open-use for students, and seminars. The latest versions of hardware, operating systems and software applications are installed and regularly updated to accommodate the constantly developing teaching needs.
Practical sessions take place in the College’s fully equipped practical rooms, which consist of:
- Patient assessment and treatment room equipped with the latest versions of electric and hydraulic plinths, anatomical models, measurement and assessment tools, walking aids and audiovisual equipment.
- Electrotherapy area with modern rehabilitation equipment such as TENS, ultrasound, microwave diathermy etc.
- Gym area with modern exercise equipment, exercise mats, therabands, pilates balls and balance trainer platforms.
The Speech Analysis lab is equipped with computers with relevant software and hardware for speech disorder assessment and restoration, essential to the speech therapy professional. Students use this lab for both lectures and practical training on this specific area.
These workshops are used by Early Childhood and Speech Therapy students, where they can create their own educational or assessment material. The workshops are divided into sub-areas, the so-called ‘corners’ or activity centres. Each area is equipped with appropriate educational material and serves a specific purpose, simulating the premises of a kindergarten. These corners include Literacy, Maths, Music, Arts and Crafts, Muppets, Creativity and Imagination.
These facilities are used by Psychology, Counselling, Speech Therapy and Special Educational Needs students, where they can find reference material, conduct and observe role-plays of counselling and therapeutic sessions. In the Clinical Suite, students can access diagnostic manuals, contemporary tools for the observation, prediction and comprehension of human behaviour, personality and attributes, such as the TAT projective test, the MMPI personality test and various learning and speech disorders assessment tests. The Counselling Suite is stocked with educational DVDs of therapy sessions and is designed in order to host counselling sessions, with special furniture, an observation room with recording capabilities and a one-way mirror.
The College runs self-contained, lending Libraries at all campuses, which provide print and on-line resources, information technology and study areas. The College libraries are stocked with more than 12,000 volumes of Greek and English books, generic or specialist publications, dictionaries and other reference material. Students have full access to the partner University E-Library, where they can find e-books, e-journals, and databases and are also encouraged to visit nearby, open-access University Libraries. The Libraries provide opportunities for on-site study, printing and photocopying facilities, computer facilities, an information desk and the borrowing service. The digital services of the library include the on-line book search and availability check, book reservation and borrowing extension. The library collection of the College is continuously renewed and updated, providing students with excellent opportunities for study and research.
Mediterranean College students have full access to an array of electronic resources, through the College and the partner UK University virtual learning environments. Classter is the virtual learning platform of Mediterranean College, where students have access to course material, timetables, handbooks and announcements, fill-in questionnaires, submit their course-work, communicate with students and staff and get feedback for their progress. This digital platform is a useful tool that sustains the communication between students and the College, even when students are not physically present on campus. Students have individual log-in accounts to the partner University’s e-Learning Platform, thus, equal access to electronic resources with students based in the UK. This provides them with useful, specialist material for their course as well as infinite and invaluable sources of information through the University’s digital library. The University’s e-learning platform serves as the gateway to its E-Library. Thousands of electronic books, academic journals, databases, research projects, corporate reports and newspapers are available to students, to assist them with their reading and research. The digital services of the College’s library include the on-line book search, availability check, book reservation and borrowing extension.
Using their College e-mail account and a Microsoft password, students can access DreamSpark and download all major Microsoft software, such as MSOffice, MS SQL Server, Windows Server as well as free, on-line books. As UK University students, they have the opportunity to access additional software, through the University’s on-line platform and on-line software hubs.
