Course Information
Our innovative MA Leading Tourism & Hospitality is a postgraduate study programme aimed at immersing students in the field of global and domestic tourism and leading hospitality businesses, offering knowledge and skills from the practices of top industry brands, while also cultivating an overall tourism awareness and culture of hospitality, that uniquely enhances the customer experience.
The programme is developed in collaboration with the University of Derby, a TOP3 UK University for Hospitality, Tourism and Events studies, according to Guardian University Guide 2023. It allows students to delve into all aspects of tourism and hospitality management, enabling them to focus on the areas they prefer to specialise in and apply their knowledge in the real world.
Students will discover the true dimension of luxury hospitality, will be able to plan and organise large-scale events, while simultaneously gaining knowledge and skills in administration, strategic management, and sustainable development in the contemporary tourism business environment.

The acquired knowledge and skills in luxury brand management and the development of innovative business practices are applied in the of Tourism and Hospitality industry, as well as in more creative sectors such as Fashion and Design, creating various career prospects for graduates.

The programme focuses on the principles and functions of Business Administration and their application in the Hospitality industry. It emphasises sustainable strategic thinking and operational culture, providing a deep understanding of management principles, such as strategic management, organisational behavior, marketing, and human resource management. Sustainable Tourism Business & Development
The module "Sustainable Tourism Business & Development" focuses on the principles and practices of sustainable tourism in the context of business development. Students will explore issues such as responsible tourism, community engagement, environmental protection and economic development in the tourism industry. The aim is to enable students to bridge the gap between theory and current practice, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to deal with real-life situations and anticipated future trends. Through case studies and practical exercises, students will learn how to create and manage sustainable tourism businesses that benefit both the environment and local communities. This module aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable practices in tourism and contribute to the long-term success of the industry.
Tourism and Hospitality Asset & Revenue Management
The module aims to update knowledge with the latest asset management techniques and provide a real, objective view of the current challenges of the tourism market. Students will learn how to effectively manage resources, optimise revenue streams and enhance the overall financial performance of tourism and hospitality businesses. They will also develop skills in financial analysis, strategic planning and decision-making, which are essential for successful management careers in this sector. Topics covered include asset valuation, revenue forecasting, pricing strategies, performance management and industry-specific financial analysis. It includes understanding and implementing strategies to maximise the profitability and value of assets such as hotels, resorts, restaurants and other tourism-related businesses. At the end of the module, students will have a full understanding of how to maximise profitability in the tourism and hospitality sector.
Operational Excellence & Innovation
The module focuses on two key concepts that organisations strive to achieve in order to remain competitive and successful in today's rapidly changing business landscape. Students will explore operational excellence and continuous improvement of business processes in order to achieve exceptional performance. The module includes streamlining operations, reducing waste, increasing efficiency and delivering high quality products or services to customers. By focusing on operational excellence, students will understand how organisations can achieve cost savings, improve customer satisfaction and gain a competitive advantage in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Research Methodologies
This module aims to support students in developing research skills that will be relevant to their future employment, while helping to provide specific guidance for their final stage dissertation project. This module aims to facilitate the development of research and business development skills. The module therefore provides motivation and guidance for independent study. Trends continue to evolve in the service/experience economy, highlighting the potentially important role that research can play, in effective decision making. Developing graduates with creative, problem-solving, research and analytical skills is more important than ever in today's environment. These areas rely on the evaluation and subsequent application of specific research approaches, methods and techniques, in order to cope with an ever-changing competitive environment.
The Global Business Environment and the Luxury Experience (optional)
The module "The Global Business Environment & the Luxury Experience" explores the intersection of global business dynamics and the luxury industry. This module will cover topics such as brand reputation in the digital age, sustainability, aspects of business performance. In a competitive business environment that is constantly changing, luxury hospitality organisations must successfully address current challenges. Through case studies and real-world examples, learners will gain a comprehensive understanding of how the global business environment affects the luxury experience. Customers in this particular market segment have specific requirements and the experiences provided must meet their expectations. In addition, ways of designing new experiences, targeting this market will be presented. The aim of this module is to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of the luxury market in a global context.
Building & Managing a Luxury Brand (optional)
The module will analyse the key concepts in managing a luxury brand, such as differentiation, exclusivity and reputation. In addition, it will analyse basic marketing principles and digital tools to apply them to any type of hospitality organisation. Issues of co-branding, image co-creation and consumer-brand relationship will be at the core of this module. In addition, the module will explore opportunities for technological innovations, including metaverse, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality. Building and managing a luxury brand requires careful planning, attention to detail and a deep understanding of the target market and brand positioning. Luxury brands are known for exclusivity, premium quality and superior customer experience. Companies in the hospitality sector (hotels, restaurants, etc.) aim to distinguish their brand image and differentiate their product or service among their competitors, by adopting branding strategies, as identifying the target customer base and understanding their needs and preferences is of paramount importance to hospitality businesses. Students will have a full understanding of the processes and steps leading to the creation and management of a luxury brand.
Event Design, Management & Risk Assessment (optional)
The module introduces students to the complete processes of planning and successful execution of an event, based on basic theoretical concepts and the latest trends, while examining management issues related to event development in various environments and scales. Students will learn about the various aspects of event planning, including conceptualising themes, creating event timelines, and coordinating logistics. In addition, the module will cover risk assessment strategies to ensure the safety and security of all participants. At the end of the module, students will be well prepared to effectively handle the complexities of event planning and management.
Event & Destination Marketing (optional)
Event and Destination Marketing is a module that focuses on the strategies and techniques used to promote events and destinations. Students will learn about the importance of effective marketing in attracting attendees and visitors, and how to create engaging marketing campaigns that drive engagement and interest. Students will learn how to assess market/customer needs, identify unique selling points of events and destinations, develop persuasive marketing messages and implement marketing campaigns that effectively reach and engage the target audience. They will also explore various marketing channels including social media, online advertising, public relations and partnerships. By the end of the module, students will have a full understanding of event and destination marketing strategies and will be equipped with the skills to plan and execute successful industry marketing campaigns.

Additionally, the programme is an ideal choice for active professionals in the field of Tourism, who seek a postgraduate degree to verify their empirical knowledge and pursue higher managerial positions.
The minimum English language requirement is equivalent to IELTS 7.0 (C1). If you do not possess an official English language certificate, you can sit the College’s internal placement test.
