An exciting journey full of original ideas & research data!
“A unique student conference-model student of high standards. The research projects of our students/graduates are the steppingstone for both their own personal development and their professional development”. This was characteristically stated by the President of the Scientific Committee of the Students Excellence Conference 2023, Dr. Penelope Louca (Deputy Head of Academic Affairs, Head of the School of Psychology, Academic Coordinator of Postgraduate Programmes of the School of Psychology of Mediterranean College), in a relevant question for the 10th Interdisciplinary Student Conference, successfully organised by the 1st Private English-speaking College of Greece, on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at its facilities in Athens & Thessaloniki.
The main objective of the Students Excellence Conference 2023 was to offer a unique opportunity to participants to present their research, exchange views and explore current issues related to Science and Society. Through presentations, discussions and workshops, participants had the opportunity to exchange knowledge, network and be inspired by the ideas and research of the students/lecturers.
The speakers, as well as the participants of the 10th Interdisciplinary Student Conference who came to attend its work, were welcomed by Professor Spyros Vliamos, President of the Academic Council & the Scientific Committee of Mediterranean College, focusing characteristically on “… A description of feelings and images that I have lived in the journey of life and knowledge that I made not only in the years of my studies but also in those of the rest of my life. There have been many milestones in this journey of my life, and I want to share them with you. This trip offers knowledge and not just information. So, what we mainly seek with these trips, discussions and other relevant events is the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge.”
The programme of the Conference included a wide range of topics, covering various areas of interest, such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Law, Tourism Management, and many more. Participants presented their research through oral presentations and detailed posters, providing the audience with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with their work and engage in in-depth discussions. The 10th Interdisciplinary Student Conference was an unforgettable experience for the participants, offering the opportunity to share their ideas, be inspired by others and play an active role in promoting knowledge and innovation.
As part of the student presentations of the Student Excellence Conference 2023, the International WEB-Conference on Healthcare Service & Technology Improvement stood out. The conference focused on technological applications and the improvement of the health system. Its purpose was to present the students’ dissertations in poster form, which were dealt with by fourth-year students of the Undergraduate Programme of Physiotherapy (BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy) from Athens, Thessaloniki, as well as students of the collaborating British University of Wolverhampton. The presentations received positive comments and all “speakers” received a Certificate of Oral Presentation from the University of Wolverhampton. The highlight of the online event was speeches from UK professionals, including physiotherapists and representatives of Allied Health Professions (AHP) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

For the organization of Athens, to Athanasios Ganotis, graduate of the BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology undergraduate programme, School of Psychology of Mediterranean College, for his thesis on: “Religion is the opium of the people: An FDA analysis on the construction of religion by young Greek adults”.

For the organization of Thessaloniki, the prize is awarded to Maria Spiliou, graduate of the BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology undergraduate programme, School of Psychology of Mediterranean College Thessaloniki, for her thesis on: “Do metacognitive beliefs, attentional bias and high interoceptive awareness constitute predictive factors of health anxiety in young adults and adults? A cross-sectional study».
The criteria for the selection of these presentations were the presentation and originality of the topics, their scientific validity and their methodological approach.
In addition to the honorary distinction, the award includes a scholarship to study in a postgraduate programme of the winner’s choice, at Mediterranean College.
