The Mediterranean College Graduation Awards Ceremonies – Class of 2018 were organized in Athens, on Monday, February 18, 2019, at the Hellenic Cosmos Theater and in Thessaloniki on Monday, February 25, 2019, at the Porto Palace Hotel & Conference Center, with this year’s theme to be “Holistic Education: Education as Art”.
In the presence of the Founder & Honorary President of the Mediterranean College, Professor Sophocles Xinis and members of the Academic Administration, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Higher National Diplomas and Professional / Executive Diplomas were awarded to 445 graduates from the Schools of Business, Computing, Psychology, Education, Tourism & Hospitality, Engineering and Health Professions of Mediterranean College and Mediterranean Professional Studies.
Academic representatives of the Collaborating British Universities attended the events: In Athens, Professor Judith Lamie, Pro Vice Chancellor, External Affairs of the University of Derby, who congratulated the graduates, Professor Keith McLay, Pro-Vice Chancellor / Dean, College of Art, Humanities & Education of the University of Derby, Dr Julie Wright, Head of Health Professions of the Manchester Metropolitan University while Mr. Richard Side, Head of International at the University of Derby attended the Graduation Ceremony in Thessaloniki.
Academic scholarships were awarded to students with excellent academic performance and special awards were given to professors and prominent students of the academic year 2017-18.
In his greeting, the Founder & Honorary President of the Mediterranean College, Professor Sophocles Xinis stated that “It should be the sole purpose of Education and Educational Institutions, not limited to the transmission of the core knowledge and the development of measurable skills, to contribute to the creation of rounded personalities, socially active citizens with critical thinking, ready to face the challenges they will encounter later in their life …”
The Athens Ceremony Keynote speaker, Mr. Dimitrios Bakas, Lieutenant General, Commander of Military School of Evelpidon referred to Holistic Education as the “most essential factor in the formation of virtuous people“.
Key Note Speaker at the 39th Graduation Ceremony in Thessaloniki was Dr. Marianna Vildiridis-Hatzitoliou, Founder & Director of “Modern Montesian Education-Marianna Vildiridis”, former president of the Folklore-Ethnological Museum of Macedonia-Thrace.
An Honorary Award was given to Thessaloniki Concert Hall for the Promotion of Artistic & Educational Activities, in the presence of its Director, Dr. Giorgos Tsamis.
